To Obey is Better than Sacrifice

Hello beautiful humans!

This has a week for the books! I have nowhere near enough time to talk about the wonderful, fun, spiritual experiences I've had this week. After all is said and done though, this week has deepened my testimony of our Savior, of His atoning sacrifice, and of the role of the church and the gospel in helping us to become more like Him. I love Jesus Christ, and I hope and pray that you can all feel that same love every day of your lives.

Anyway! Last Monday we took the district to Mt. Pisgah for a tour! It was super fun and interesting, and a great way to start off this week! We spent that night in Waukee with the Walnut Hills Elders. It was a good time.

Then it was Zone Conference! That day is both my favorite and least favorite day. I love the spirit I feel there, and the instruction I receive. It's incredible to gather with so many people who are trying to serve God and their fellowmen, to worship the Savior, and to resolve together to be better. It's one of the most powerful meetings in the church that I've every been to.

We were in our area on Wednesday and Thursday, got some work done, definitely some cool experiences. Thursday night we actually showed the Restoration movie to one of the people we're teaching. I probably needed to watch that as much as they did... As we watched it, I was absolutely amazed, and felt the spirit testify of the hardship and sacrifice that the early saints had to go through. It was equally amazing to see the many parallels between the early restored church, and the original church of Christ. It struck me that in all cases, truth is always persecuted and opposed.

That was the perfect setting for the rest of the week. WE WENT TO NAUVOO!!!! Man, I love that place. To make it better, this was exactly a year after I first came to Nauvoo, on my way to Quincy. The theme stayed the same. Sacrifice. But as the weekend progressed, the theme started to change to that of obedience. As I sat in the temple, I realized that the most important sacrifice we can make, is that of our own will. When we choose to obey Him, covenant to serve Him, and then do His will, that is how we actually grow into who He wants us to be. Some great chapters I read on this trip are 1 John 2-3. I'd encourage you to read those chapters.

Anyway, I'll spare you anymore of my musings. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
