What a Week - August 27, 2018

Wow. Y'all are lucky I survived this week so I could tell you about it!  Suffice it to say, I haven't had a spare moment this whole week. I've never been more tired, busy, or happy in my life.  That is, except for last Monday. I got pulled over, had to fight a parking ticket, and it was raining. I was not happy that day.  But the rest was stellar. We had MLC  on Tuesday , which was so good, and awesome to see so many people again. I also was able to give a musical number there, which was fun.  The next few days were loaded with meetings, service, lessons and member dinners. It was so lit. Had very little time to find though, which is sad.  On Friday  we had exchanges with the YSA elders. I was with Elder Shelp. He is from Peoria, and they always went street contacting, which I've never really done before. Super funny though, we were on the opposite side of the street from some political activists who were asking people to fill out ...

The City of Iowa City - Aug. 20, 2018

Hello everybody!  This week has been absolutely crazy. Transfers happened, and it was so crazy and exciting! I got shipped out to serve as a Zone Leader with Elder Anderson (my ZL for the last two transfers) in IOWA CITY!!! Our zone covers all of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and surrounding areas. We're so excited about this transfer! It's already so good and so full of miracles.  Backtracking though, we had exchanges with Centerville. That was fun, and DJ fed us all. Highlight of the week: DJ chasing Elder Clark around with a Tazer. Oh man that was funny.  Then it was transfer calls. Some crazy stuff going on in the McCain lineage. I went Zone Leader, my son Elder Hutchings went Zone Leader, my grandson went District Leader and is training my great-grandson (who looks like a stud)! Good things happening.  Then we went to Waukee for P-day. Fun. Ball. Bye-bye books. Etc.  THEN IT WAS TRANSFERS! We got to Des Moines pretty early, said goodby...

The Bold, The Persistent, The Successful! - Aug. 13, 2018

Well, hello again!  Time just keeps flying! Transfers are this week, we'll find out everything tomorrow (please hold mail till you hear the news). I cannot believe how fast this one went. I've really grown a lot this transfer though, last transfer I just wanted to leave Lenox SO BAD, but I stayed. Now I just want to stay. I've learned a lot of what it means to be consecrated in these last few weeks, and it's amazing how much I've come to love this place as I've thrown myself entirely into the work. I love being a missionary.  This week has also been one of the coolest of my mission. I've been more acutely aware of the guidance of the Holy Ghost in my work this week, and we've seen miracles on top of miracles come from heeding that guidance!  At the beginning of the week, as I was preparing for our district council, I began feeling very strongly what I needed to train on. I was amazed at how that training simply came together. As such, I wa...

To Obey is Better than Sacrifice

Hello beautiful humans!  This has a week for the books! I have nowhere near enough time to talk about the wonderful, fun, spiritual experiences I've had this week. After all is said and done though, this week has deepened my testimony of our Savior, of His atoning sacrifice, and of the role of the church and the gospel in helping us to become more like Him. I love Jesus Christ, and I hope and pray that you can all feel that same love every day of your lives.  Anyway! Last Monday we took the district to Mt. Pisgah for a tour! It was super fun and interesting, and a great way to start off this week! We spent that night in Waukee with the Walnut Hills Elders. It was a good time.  Then it was Zone Conference! That day is both my favorite and least favorite day. I love the spirit I feel there, and the instruction I receive. It's incredible to gather with so many people who are trying to serve God and their fellowmen, to worship the Savior, and to resolve together ...
