Other Sheep I Have...Them I Must Bring
Hello Friends and Family! (That's what Elder McCain calls every group he encounters...)
For starters, like I said on Tuesday, Neil is totally dead. It's so weird. But there have been SO many miracles coming from his passing. It's incredible! I mentioned that we were able to teach his sister, Jeri, and she wants to keep learning, which is incredible. She is also inviting another sister, Debbie (@mtc district 44a), to be taught on Wednesday, which is so cool!
Also, watching the ward reach out and take care of their family has been incredible. On Wednesday our Elder's Quorum President went to bring a meal to their home, and while Jeri wasn't home, one o Neil's good friends was. His name is Glen. He called the Ward Mission Leader and asked to be taught by us, and said he wants to come to church next week. What? People don't set up their own lessons. Call him a super investigator! Can't wait to see where this goes. Also, one of our previous investigators, Emily F, who hasn't been to church in a while, contacted Sister Higgins asking to meet with us again in her home, because she was close to Neil and feels like she needs some support right now. That's four investigators that've stemmed from Neil's passing. Not only that, but they are working through the ward, which is boosting the missionary spirit in the ward as a whole. I feel like I'm just observing the work unfold. God's definitely in charge, and I'm just blessed to be His Undershepherd for Quincy in this miraculous time.
So, if that wasn't enough to make this week fantastic, it was also my birthday on Wednesday! To celebrate we went to TCBY again, to consume another quart of ice cream. (That's 9 quarts. 5 weeks.) AND THEY GOT A NEW FLAVOR. ON MY BIRTHDAY. AND THE FLAVOR WAS SALTED CARAMEL!!!!!!!!!!!! I cried in joy a little bit.
To make the day ever better, we went on exchanges again. Elder May and I were knocking, and we decided to visit Biron, who we'd met last week, and taught him and his three super drunk friends. They all said they'd come to church, though Biron was the only one who actually showed up. And later that evening we found Emily and Kelsey, who are literally the most prepared people I've ever met. We explained prophets, and Kelsey literally had to stand up because of how excited she was that there's actually a prophet on earth. So thrilled about those two. Love them.
The rest of the week was pretty normal. We did an exchange in Hannibal on Thursday. But church was SO FUNNY! Biron showed up, but on a sobriety scale of 1-10, we'd give him a 4. So he provided so much comedic relief! He wouldn't wear his shoes, so he just carried them around. He got in a bit of a debate with a recent convert, Evelyn, about not flipping people off. In priesthood, he decided that he definitely wants to get the priesthood. Then, when we told him that we want him to be baptized on November 18th, he told us he would, and that two months should be enough time to, "do some pretty big sins" So we'll have to work with him on that.
This week is transfers, and we get to do a temple session on Wednesday, in Nauvoo! I'm so ecstatic! Can't wait!
Here's the poem, Undershepherd:
How beautiful are the feet,
Of Him who gathers the lost sheep.
A shepherds work,
Both meek and grand,
Christ gathers and cares,
For us, His lambs.
We all are lost,
We all need his love
Yet he trusts us, sinners,
to assist him above.
Undershepherds,
Sent to care,
Though imperfect,
He bids us, share,
That light and truth,
His fold to help prepare.
Have an amazing week! God is good! Have faith!
