The Plan of Love - July 8, 2019

Heyyy fam.

This week has honestly been quite the emotional roller-coaster. 

Most of the time the work doesn't feel much different than usual, I'm kinda trying to ignore the impending conclusion to the greatest time of my life. However, occasionally the mission slaps me in the face and I realize how short my time here really is.

This week definitely had some of those. 

There are also times in missionary work that make it all worth it, when you see people change, families unite, and Jesus Christ manifests His love with great majesty. In other words, moments when we "are brought to sing redeeming love, and this because of the power of his word". Those are the times that we have, "great reason to rejoice" (Alma 26:13).

This week had some of those times as well. 

On Friday we had Zone Conference, which was the last zone conference. There is honestly no way to prepare for that. They have you give a departing testimony, and I definitely cried. It was such an incredible experience to look out across all these faces of people I love so deeply, and who were there for me as I have struggled and grown these last two years. To bear testimony of my Jesus to so many friends who were shining examples of Christ, and to do so for the last time, was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life. Shoutout to all of you, you know who you are.

Then, on Saturday, we had another beautiful experience. Some of you might remember Audrie from back in Iowa City. So it's been like, 8 months now, and I was able to go back for the baptism of their daughter's Leiya and Hazel. Brothers are Sisters, there is nothing in the world that is more beautiful than watching a family finally unite in Christ. I mean that. To watch my good friend, her father, baptize her just as he baptized his wife months ago, and to see Audrie stand and speak about how the Holy Ghost has blessed her... It's beyond words folks. The gospel blesses families. That's what it's all about.

Anyway, my apologies for the emotional content of this email, it's just a reflection of the emotional content of this week. 

I love you all, hope this all finds you well, and I expect to see all of you who aren't on missions at my homecoming on July 28th at noon at 24 S Country Ln, Fruit Heights, UT. Be there.

My Soul Delighteth in Plainness

Hi all!  ​Well, I'm fairly certain that it's actually been a month since I got here. But everyone tells me it's only been ten days. Either way, I've loved every second of it. The MTC is definitely a sacred place, and I'm going to miss it so much when we leave.  To start off, last Sunday was probably the longest, most spiritually educational day of my entire life. The whole "day of rest" thing, does not apply here. Basically it's 18 hours of church, with about 1 hour to eat during the day. It was crazy, and I got pretty dehydrated, had a migrane, and was feeling pretty lousy. Someone mentioned around  5 o'clock  that we really aren't physically capable of doing the work we're asked to do on our missions, and that the only way we survive is through reliance on the Spirit.  That hit me pretty hard, and I started praying to be supported in my weakness, and it was crazy how fast I felt power flowing into me, the headache was still ...

Here are some random photos that people have posted to his mission page on Facebook.  I couldn't decide what to do with them, so I'm just going to put them here.  :) I think they may have been tired of having their picture taken? Jordan says that Elder McCain is so much like his friend Spencer, that it's eerie.   Elder Housholder and Elder Mitchell, shopping at Walmart-and maybe passing out Books of Mormon while they're at it? I think they were getting hungry here, I believe this was taken before they got dinner at Golden Corral.  Chatting with Elder McCain With Elder Mitchel again shopping at Walmart.  There's this sweet lady in their area who seems to run into them there and takes their pictures when she sees them, just to post on FB for the mom's to see their missionaries.  How sweet.  Even if it's a bit blurry, I'll take it.  :)  And at least he's smiling in this one-I think he misses acting sometimes, so he has to...

Sent to Bear Witness of that Light

Hello again!  ​Talk about a crazy week, where to begin... ​Well,  Tuesday  we had an exchange with the Zone Leaders, which was super fun, and Elder May and I found some incredible people! Hopefully they pan out, so far they haven't been super great at keeping appointments. We'll see.  Then, because we had the New Trainers Meeting in Iowa City  on Wednesday , we drove out to Kirksville to stay the night with Elder Fackrell and Elder Steed (who was in my MTC district) so we could drive up together the next morning. The meeting was awesome, it was so great to see the Elders from 44a again. We totally went to the food court and I FINALLY ATE CHICK-FIL-A  AGAIN!!!! Oh man, if things that addict you are against the Word of Wisdom, Strawberry Frosted Lemonades are definitely a sin.
