Another Day - Jan. 28, 2019

Hello again.

Life is pretty great out here in D-Pit! Because of some crazy cold weather that's going to hit the next couple of days we had to reschedule transfer calls, so we got our calls last night instead of tomorrow, and Elder Schoeneman and I are going to stay together till March. Super pumped about that. If we can survive being trapped in our apartment the next couple days, then this transfer is going to be dumb lit. Exciting times!

Also, s/o to my man Elder Harvath for staying in Quincy.

Anyway, this week has been one for the books, that's for sure. We were able to go to Dubuque for p-day and an exchange, which was fun. However we got hit by some crazy freezing rain on Tuesday morning... If you've ever been to that town, you know how many hills that place has. So we weren't able to do much without dying. We did get some pics with some murals by their house though, so that's neat.

We had another exchange that night in our area, but we got 8+ inches of snow that night, ON TOP OF THE ICE. So we were grounded that morning, and built a snow fort on our deck. Good times.

The highlight of the week came on Thursday though. I was on exchanges with Elder Madsen and we had a recently ordained priest with us, his first time. Now, there's a rule that we can't knock outside if it's below 0. And we aren't supposed to be out at all if it's -15 or below. Well, when we picked up our priest, it was -8. I was seriously considering cancelling and finding something else to do, mainly because I hate the cold. But I felt like we really needed to go finding, and so off we went in search of some indoor apartments. Miraculously we found some right by the church!

We started knocking, and didn't find a lot of success. A few people said we could come back, but no one was very solid. We had one floor left, 15 more minutes with the priest, and I looked at my phone and saw the temp: -16. I was ready to bounce, but I knew there was a reason we were there, and felt that we needed to finish the floor. We did, and we found Emily and Shay. They're both mega prepared, and were some of the greatest doorstep lessons of my mission. God is good. Follow promptings folks, and don't make excuses.

Anyway, that was long. Sorry to bore you. I did write a poem on repentance though, since it's been a while, I thought I'd share:

Another day finished,
Another chance passed.
I've worn out my hours,
Time is moving too fast.

I lay down my head,
Filled with regret.
I've wasted my day,
Another need to repent.

"Why can't I, this?"
"Why don't I, that?"
"Why aren't I perfect?"
"How can I make it back?"

Those thoughts rack my mind,
Dragging body from bed,
And kneeling, start feeling,
There's light up ahead.

As I turn to the Savior,
As I turn over my sin,
His love wraps around me,
And I sleep peaceful again.

I really can testify that repentance is real. God knows our flaws. He knows our failures. That is why He sent His Son. So please don't beat yourself up when you fail, fail towards Christ and you'll fail forward.

Love you all! Godspeed!
