Tempests, Tornadoes, and Testimonies
Hello friends and family! I hope all of your weeks have been as wonderful as mine. For some reason, it seems this week has flew by. The
weather is finally getting good! We had some adventures with some spring storms this week. More on that later.
Anyway. Last Tuesday was something called Area Book Appreciation Day, which is basically the day we turned all of the paper teaching records into the digital version. It was a really long day. Thankfully a former investigator had invited us over for dinner with him that night, so we got a break from the paperwork and went over there.
This man, DJ, is one of the most interesting people I've met on my mission. He's ex-military and is a pretty rough looking guy. But he loves the gospel and the missionaries. He was going to get baptized a while back, but got offended by the district leader at the time saying that he was "a waste of time". He went on a bit of a rant about that and how, "he just wanted to give one of those district leaders a piece of his mind." Needless to say, I was kinda scared, but the Holy Ghost is really cool. Before I knew what I was saying, I'd told him that that was the job I had, that I believed God had arranged for me to come, so he could express his resentment, get over himself, and be baptized. It was unreal. But he should come to church soon, and he said he wanted to be baptized. Super excited. :D
Wednesday was crazy. Did some knocking, made my training for district meeting, and when we walked outside into the spring storm that had been going all day, the sky had this green hue too it. Turned out, a tornado touched down right outside our area. It was crazy.
Thursday was district meeting and an exchange with Elder Clayson. Neither of us could drive, so we were out walking, and got caught in a flash flood instead. Gotta love this Iowa weather. We took refuge in front of a 7th day Adventist church. Good times.
Friday we finished the exchange, but I got this quick, weird bug that knocked me out for the last half of the day. s/o to Elder Clayson for cleaning my whole apartment while I was sleeping.
Saturday we went to a baptism in Osceola, interviewed their investigator getting baptized next week, came home, ate, and drove to Des Moines for Stake Conference. We stayed the night with some Elders up there, went to the rest of conference on Sunday, came home and weekly planned.
In closing I just wanted to share something our Stake President, President Pence said:
"If you are not reading the Book of Mormon everyday, you might as well bury it in your backyard. If we don't read it everyday, it might as well have been left in the hill Cumorah."
That, Brothers and Sisters, is true. Like exercise, if we do not consistently study, it is of very little value to us. If you are not reading the Book of Mormon everyday, see that you change that. In this world today, we cannot afford to be weak as to things spiritual. Read the Book of Mormon.
I love you all! Due to conference, I do not have a poem, but I have some pics. Godspeed!
Here's a video of us being stupid in our CARPETED bathroom...
