Of Wind and Weddings

Image
Hello everyone!  This week has been amazing! In retrospect, there wasn't a lot that happened at the beginning of the week, but this weekend was super lit!  The most important thing to know about the beginning of the week, is that it dropped about 50 degrees overnight. But the temperature wasn't the bad part, it was the wind. I guess that during the summer the wind gets broken up by the cornfields. But now that they're all gone, the wind just howls across the fields, and cuts you right to the bone. It's crazy how much of an effect corn has on everything out here, even the weather.  On Friday  night, we had the ward fall festival, which was SO fun! They had a bounce house, deep fried everything, some ridiculous costumes, and they put the missionaries in charge of the kissing booth. Don't ask. ;) (Jk, Hersey's kisses) Pictures are attached.  At the conclusion, we tore everything down as fast as possible, and rapid-fire set up Rachel and Kevin's...

Hey y'all!  Transfers were this week! The Quincy Squad has officially been separated. Elder McCain headed off to open a new town in the middle of nowhere, and Elder May went to Cedar Rapids to be the zone leader in that area. Elder Mitchell stayed, and is training a new Zone Leader, Elder Jacobson. And I am also staying, AND AM TRAINING!!!!!!!! I'm honestly more overwhelmed than I think I've ever been. President Badger is an incredible man, but he's also crazy enough to have myself, and four others who just finished being trained, turnaround train. So that's that.  So, to prepare for the demise of the squad, we partied it up! I went on exchanges with both Zone Leaders, and had some rockin good lessons. It was a good couple days.  Wednesday  we got to go to Nauvoo again, I love that place. It was a crazy day afterwords though, as we got everything packed and cleaned.  Then  on Thursday , we got up at the unholy hour of 4 in the morning, to d...

Sang as they Walked....and Walked....and Walked

Hello All!  This week was long, and relatively uneventful! But being a missionary is still incredible, and I'm still so blessed to participate in the work!  Monday , we had Kirskville up for P-day! We went bowling, and I finally got my groove back! I went from bowling 90's, and getting pretty picked on by the boys, to bowling two 150+ games, and wrecked their days! I was super happy about that.  The rest of the week, due to some car stuff, we were walking. Which normally would've been fine, but starting  Tuesday  the weather flipped out. It went from 80's and sunny, to 40's and rainy overnight. So walking was miserable.  Wednesday  got a little nicer, and we were still able to get TCBY that night (not a quart this time), as we walked to an appointment with RACHEL AND KEVIN!!!! Oh my goodness, I love them. We were planning on teaching them the Word of Wisdom, cause that's something we thought Kevin still struggled with. Lol, someh...

Whoops....I don't think this is in our mission...

Hey y'all!  Wow. So much happened this week, and most of it wasn't even in my area!  Last Monday we were able to have a FHE with Rachel AND Kevin at the Higgins home! It was super awesome! We wanted to teach the Law of Chastity, but we had to be careful what we talked about, since there were young kids there. We had been praying to figure out how best to teach it, and during Elder Oak's talk, we decided that it would be best to use the Family Proclamation to The World. So that's what we did. We read part of the document, discussed it. Both of us, Brother, and Sister Higgins all shared our testimony of families. Those things, coupled with the spirit of their home made for a ridiculously powerful lesson. They had no chance. After the lesson, before we committed them to pray about getting married or moving out, they informed us that they want their family to be like this one, and they're gonna get married  in two weeks !?!?!?! So now Elder McCain and I have ...

Random Facebook Photos

Here are some random photos that people have posted to his mission page on Facebook.  I couldn't decide what to do with them, so I'm just going to put them here.  :) I think they may have been tired of having their picture taken? Jordan says that Elder McCain is so much like his friend Spencer, that it's eerie.   Elder Housholder and Elder Mitchell, shopping at Walmart-and maybe passing out Books of Mormon while they're at it? I think they were getting hungry here, I believe this was taken before they got dinner at Golden Corral.  Chatting with Elder McCain With Elder Mitchel again shopping at Walmart.  There's this sweet lady in their area who seems to run into them there and takes their pictures when she sees them, just to post on FB for the mom's to see their missionaries.  How sweet.  Even if it's a bit blurry, I'll take it.  :)  And at least he's smiling in this one-I think he misses acting sometimes, so he has to...
