Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence

Hello all!
This week has been incredible! So much too say, no words to properly say it with, so I'll try my best.

Elder McCain and I have honestly never felt so guided in our lives. We feel like the whole situation here is spring-loaded and ready to go, but we have to figure out what we need to do to trigger the work here. This Wednesday we were trying to figure out what we were supposed to do, and we both felt like we needed to go back to the apartment and study  member work in Preach my Gospel. So we did that.
And oh how amazing the next few hours were. I've experienced revelation in some small ways before, but this was huge! Two hours later, we had this beautiful plan to implement to bolster the ward missionary work. Through that experience we were able to see what God's vision for member missionary work is for this ward, and it's incredible. I've never been so excited about a church thing!

The next couple days were spent fighting for every inch we gained. The first part of the week we had investigators falling from the sky. It was insane. We went from 0 to 14 investigators in three days. But then the work just stopped. Seven of them dropped us. Members fell through. We couldn't even meet with the Bishop or Ward Mission Leader to discuss this plan we had. It was so hard.

But Sunday morning I was listening to a devotional by Elder Holland, Cast Not Away Therefore your Confidence. I highly recommend it. It talks about the opposition that can come, that we should actually expect after we have spiritual experiences. That has really helped. I realize that doing the right thing is going to be super hard, but it's how it's supposed to work, so God will provide a way.

On a much lighter note. I fell in the Mississippi on Monday. That was exciting. We also were able to go with a recent convert to the temple on Saturday. The Nauvoo temple is an incredible place. I can't wait to do a session there, but the baptistry is still amazing. It's the biggest font in the world. Probably twice as big as the one in the Bountiful Temple. It's an amazing place.

Then. On Saturday Night. We found a mouse in our pasta cupboard. That was unacceptable. The rest of the evening was spent capturing the darned thing, and because we have no traps, it was quite an expedition. Elder McCain had just read some talk though, about how we wouldn't even kill a bug if we understood the atonement. So he insisted that we release the poor thing (We named it Ralph) into a field. We're fairly certain that the rodent problem is at an end, but we will be setting several traps this afternoon.

That's pretty much it for now. I love Quincy. I love missionary work! All of you should make an effort to help your local missionaries with their work. It helps sooo much.

Godspeed,
Elder Housholder
Mom's personal favorite-It's beautiful.

Green fields with a missionary in there that you can sort of see. :)
Okay, maybe this is moms personal favorite-Ralph the Mouse.

Close up on Ralph-maybe they'll find his motorcycle. ;)
Beautiful green fields of corn and soy

(Mom's side note-I just can't get these photos to go where I want them too, oh well.  At least they're here.)
